HIGH ROAD TO TAOS

Take the charming High Road to
Taos.  Drive through stark desert, New Mexico badlands, and the lush Carson National Forest.

SANTUARIO DE CHIMAYO

Stop by Santuario de Chimayo to hear and explore the story of the healing dirt.

Enjoy a delicious Southwestern lunch, or stop for a drink, at the historic Rancho de Chimayo.  Call (505) 351-444 for reservations, or visit
www.RanchoDeChimayo.com.
Some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest is found in the 1.5 million acres covered by the Carson National Forest. Elevations rise from 6,000 feet to 13,161 feet at Wheeler Peak, the highest in New Mexico.

TAOS
PLAZA

Stroll at the historic
Taos Plaza.

TAOS PUEBLO

Visit the Taos Pueblo to peek into the Native American way of living. Taos Pueblo is the only living Native American community designated both a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a National Historic Landmark. Taos Pueblo was declared a National Historic landmark in 1965; The sacred Blue Lake returned to Taos in 1970; Taos Pueblo admitted to the World Heritage Society in 1992 as one of the most significant historical cultural landmarks in the world (other sites include the Taj Mahal, Great Pyramids and the Grand Canyon in the United States). The multi-storied adobe buildings have been continuously inhabited for over 1000 years.

Please call (575) 758-1028 or visit
www.TaosPueblo.com for more information.

RIO GRANDE GORGE

Visit the Rio Grande Gorge just a few miles north of
Taos. The Rio Grande travels 1,885 miles from the mountains of southern Colorado and north-central New Mexico to the Gulf of Mexico. In northern New Mexico, the river cuts through the ancient Taos volcanic plateau to form the 78-mile long Rio Grande Gorge.

On your way back, enjoy a lovely Mexican dinner at Gabriel’s (close to the Santa Fe Opera).  Take Cuyamungue exit.  Call (505) 455-7000 for reservations and directions.
